About the Farm
Located in the Hamilton neighborhood of Northeast Baltimore, BearFoot Farm sits on a two acre plot of land that has historically been farmed in Baltimore City for many years. About 20 years ago, the Long family purchased the land, which has since undergone gradual revitalization. Kyle Long has undertaken the resurgence of this land as an urban farm and, in 2016, the farm inaugurated its first growing season! By promoting biodiversity and the maintenance of native species, we hope to implement sustainable and ecologically sound methods to keep the land fertile, flourishing, and healthy. One interesting way we are doing this is through our woodlot. The woodlot, which existed long before the establishment of BearFoot provides a habitat for the adaptive native species, as well as a breath of fresh air for a farm in the bustling cityscape. As Long looks to the future and the growth of Bearfoot, he hopes that, with the incorporation of chickens, goats, ducks and the maintenance of the farm land and woodlot, BearFoot will continue to be a healthy and model farm that strikes the balance of reaping the benefits of farming while also supporting a health ecosystem.

Farmer Profile: Kyle Long
A physical therapist turned farmer, Kyle Long is the main man behind BearFoot Farm. Throughout his undergraduate career at Dickinson College, Long worked on the colleges’ farm and tailored his coursework towards learning more about urban agriculture. With a little curiosity and a lot of dedication, Long took his vision of what his parents land could be and acted on it. He has since been growing a variety of vegetables and has recently acquired livestock!
