About Our Farm
Urban Pastoral™ (UP) is a group of next generation farmers and developers, that seek to regenerate Baltimore through a new model for urban food production. Capitalizing on underutilized spaces, UP transforms industrial developments into thriving, community-centric food hubs, by deploying and operating networks of high-tech, Controlled Environment Urban Farms and complimentary food businesses, such as restaurants and markets. UP has the capacity to locally produce thousands of pounds of fruits and vegetables for local schools, institutions, and marketplaces, year-round, and help fuel a green collar job industry. UP is partnered with social enterprise, Humanim, Inc. to create jobs for formerly incarcerated and education programs for the East Baltimore community.
Founded by J.J. Reidy in 2014, UP is a collective of chefs, architects, developers, and engineers, that represent the modern day food entrepreneur. J.J. began soil farming in Vermont where he held run 4 farmers markets and a 50-acre organic farm. While earning his MBA at Johns Hopkins, he worked with USAID in Ethiopia to develop sustainable supply chains and cooperative unions for a vast network of rural coffee farmers. Most recently he and his team were selected by the U.S. State Department to partake in the USA Pavilion innovation program at the 2015 World Expo in Milan. UP collaborated with innovators and country leaders from around the globe to develop strategies on how to suitably feed our planet.
