About Our Farm
Hillen Homestead is a small urban farm growing sustainable cut flowers on two sites in Baltimore City totaling less than ¼ acre. We are committed to our community, our city, and our planet. This adventure began in 2012 when my friend Ben Meyers adopted a City-owned vacant lot near Clifton Park to build out an urban oasis near where he grew up. He named it Hillen Homestead, made a logo, and planted four blueberry bushes that promptly walked off. I was itching to try growing some flowers and have a bit more space to play around with, so we teamed up. In January 2013, Ben passed away very suddenly and tragically. After thinking things through and consulting his family, I decided the best way to honor his memory and vision was to continue growing flowers and fruit on the vacant lot. Since then, Hillen Homestead has blossomed into a small business, and every year I add new varieties and forge relationships with more florists, neighbors, customers, and other growers. My husband has been a huge help in this project as have countless friends, customers, and neighbors. We have gradually expanded the growing area at the original site and in 2015 added a second location in Belair-Edison. To honor Ben’s love of fruit and berries, both sites have small orchards and berry bushes in addition to ever-expanding flower beds with annuals and perennials.

Mission
Hillen Homestead uses sustainable practices to grow cut flowers and fruit for our neighbors and customers while building community and beautifying Baltimore City. Our core values: collaboration, creativity, community, sustainability, and equity. Our mission is to build community and beautify the city through sustainable farming and growing high-quality cut flowers and foliage.
